Colin Guthrie


Colin initiates and leads challenging and ground-breaking projects which have confirmed his reputation as an innovative, responsive and dynamic leader for learning and skills development. He works on both on a national and international basis. 

Colin has a BA (Hons) from Lancaster University where he specialised in Economic History and Political Philosophy. After graduating Colin worked in Nigeria for two years on a community development project sponsored by the British Council. He returned to the UK and following a four year study of the process of retrenchment of the UK Steel Industry was awarded a Masters degree (by thesis), University of Keele.

He develops and delivers customised development for executive and senior management teams and offers business coaching, counselling and mentoring programmes that are widely used by both the public and private sector. Colin holds several awards in Work Based Counselling and Mentoring and lectures at the University of Hull and University of Lincoln at Masters Level in these fields. 

Colin has extensive experience in engaging with Executive Leadership Teams advising in the fields of Leadership, Strategy and Culture.

He works throughout Europe and conducted a significant corporate European Management Development initiative delivering workshops in Germany, Spain, Ukraine, Austria and Poland for OSI Europe. His work in Ukraine enabled him to make extensive contacts in Kyiv which he has maintained through the current period of conflict.

Colin has delivered Business Improvement seminars in Toronto and Vancouver whilst working with the University of Hull Masters Executive Leadership programme.

Prior to COVID Colin worked for Precision Valves in Greenville South Carolina and engaged in a project that enabled the Precision Valves production team to effectively collaborate with their counterparts in the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. The project achieved the successful development of an aerosol based treatment for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). 

During COVID Colin conducted zoom based sessions with the Medical and Production teams in their review and evaluation of the product development experience.

Colin is based in St Albans in the UK and continues his guidance and support to the Refinery members through the Refinery website.
