Andy Hickling has worked in the steel industry for about 25 years: 16 for Caparo Merchant Bar and the other nine years for British Steel and Tata. He started work, with British Steel, as a Fuel Assistant and has now returned to the same department, working as a Process Safety Engineer/Fuel Engineer. He provides Process Safety advice to Energy Operations and technical guidance for site energy optimisation.
He spent 3 years teaching Plant, Process and Chemical Engineering at the Grimsby Institute for Further and Higher Education.
An advocate of Life Long Learning, he started studying for a degree at the age of 38 and has since completed a Certificate in Education and an Executive Diploma in Management Studies. He has recently received Recognised Teacher Status, with the Institute for Learning at Hull University.
