In 1981 I graduated from Kitson College Leeds and into a successful business career in the printing industry, achieving my goal of being a Sales Manager of a printing company in York by the mid 1990s. I changed career in 1997 into the training sector working at Dale Carnegie Training, one of the world’s largest training companies, followed by a spell at another training company delivering NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) training courses before setting up my own business, Training Action Results Ltd, in 2003. Running my own training business, I have been playing a major role working with the Sheffield Chamber Of Commerce and Industry, Kingsway Consulting and Rotherham College of Arts and Technology to develop the skills of communication, motivational leadership, customer service and time management in the region.

I have also had a successful career as a Police Officer in South Yorkshire since 1981, achieving the rank of Chief Officer of the Special Constabulary in 1996 to work closely with the Chief Constable and his Senior Leadership Team. In 2007 I resigned as Chief Officer and started a secondment with the NPIA (National Policing Improvement Agency) as an Implementation Manager on the Special Constabulary National Strategy Implementation Team with particular responsibility for the Training and Development work-stream.

I have been a school governor since 2002 and am now the Chair of Governors at two schools rated as outstanding by Ofsted. I have delivered Induction Courses for New Governors for the Local Authority since 2004 and in February 2012 I was appointed as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) with the National College of School Leadership to train and support other governing bodies in the Yorkshire and Humberside region. I also serve as a trustee and consultant for two charitable organisations, specifically in the fields of Family Support and Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

In 2008 I completed and was awarded the PCET Certificate in Education through Huddersfield University and I am currently studying for an MBA with the University of Wales.
